Welcome to the Visual Art, room13
I Ms. Butler, Visual Art teacher wanted to take a moment to discuss my website. I have posted here an outline of assignments, classroom expectations and discipline policy for grades K-5th. But I wanted to make note that there will be times when additional assignments are added as well as assignments omitted from the list below as time and situation permits. I look forward to working with your children this year!
The artists that develop in my class will leave with an appreciation of the arts that transcends skills but in fuses itself into aspects of their everyday life.
Students in all grades will be exploring 21st Century lessons application of student-centered learning, integrated technology and collaborative experiences. Also, students will encounter a multitude of art media (graphic design, soft and hard sculpture (ceramics), jewelry, mosaics, painting, pottery, drawing, and technology). They will participate in the artistic process from an idea’s inception to creation through reflection and critique to exhibition. They will learn about artists and art movements while studying the principals and elements of design.
My students will explore the history of art and its impact on the contemporary. They will “learn to say what cannot be said” and have an “experience we can have from no other source” which will enable them to “discover the range and variety of what we are capable of feeling.” In my classes students are given the opportunity to explore various cultures and historical periods in art. They will examine key art concepts related to other disciplines. Students in all grade levels are encouraged and challenged to not only produce art but apply an understanding of the art process to their concept of the world.
